POLI Mobility Platform

ERASMUS+

General Information

ERASMUS+ is the European Union’s program that aims to modernize and internationalize education, vocational training, and youth work.

  • For individuals (students), it offers opportunities for the development of their skills in all three components (knowledge, skills, attitudes) as well as to exchange experiences with people with similar interests from other countries.

Students can check the official website of the European Commission for further information.

Please note that POLITEHNICA Bucharest has two campuses: one located in Bucharest and the other in Pitești. Be sure to carefully select the faculty/program you wish to attend and review the information provided below. For inquiries regarding the Bucharest Campus, you can contact the ERASMUS+ office at erasmus@upb.ro. For the Pitești Campus, please use erasmus.pitesti@upb.ro.

The following information applies to both campuses:

  • You have been nominated as an exchange student by your home university, which has an ERASMUS+ Inter-Institutional Agreement (IIA) at the faculty level with the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest

  • The first step for any exchange student interested in studying at POLITEHNICA Bucharest is to contact the ERASMUS+ Representatives at both universities. The ERASMUS+ Inter-Institutional Agreement ensures that your study period at each institution will be mutually recognized

  • The curriculum at the POLITEHNICA Bucharest is organized by faculty and serves as a guide. The course list is subject to change. You can select courses from these lists and make adjustments upon arrival, in consultation with the ERASMUS+ Representatives for the respective faculty

Institutional Agreements lists:

Nomination by the Home University

After being selected by the home university, the student must be officially nominated as an exchange student at one of the two campuses. This nomination confirms that the sending institution has an ERASMUS+ exchange agreement with the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest, ensuring that the student’s study period will be mutually recognized by both institutions.

Students nominated by their home university must be registered by the institution using the online application form available on the ERASMUS+ POLITEHNICA Bucharest Platform.

Responsibilities of the Home University

The Home University is responsible for registering its nominated students through the official platform. This step constitutes the formal nomination process and eliminates the need for separate nominee lists or email confirmations.

  • It is essential that all students are nominated according to the conditions specified in the Interinstitutional Agreement, including the relevant area of study, educational level, and language proficiency.

  • Home Universities may access the registration form using the assigned username and password, which are typically the same as those used in previous academic years. Through the platform, institutions may also validate the Student Application Forms (SAFs) for their nominated students.

IMPORTANT: The credentials provided, username and password, are strictly for the exclusive use of Home University Representatives and must not be shared with students under any circumstances.

  • Once the Home University submits the data into the POLITEHNICA Bucharest database, each student will receive an automated email with instructions for activating their account and proceeding with the application process at the host university.

IMPORTANT: All ERASMUS+ incoming students registered at POLITEHNICA Bucharest must consistently use the same identification document (ID card or passport) provided during the initial registration (in the SAF) for all future administrative procedures with the university.

IMPORTANT: Before being nominated, doctoral students must reach out to the Erasmus representative in their respective faculty of interest. This step is crucial for securing a research advisor who will guide and support them throughout their research activities at POLITEHNICA Bucharest.

Unlike undergraduate and master’s students, doctoral students are nominated on the Erasmus platform primarily for research purposes rather than coursework. This nomination allows them access to POLITEHNICA Bucharest’s research resources, including laboratories, specialized facilities, and faculty expertise.

To ensure a smooth nomination process and an effective research experience, it is essential that doctoral candidates confirm their advisor arrangements and any necessary research approvals before their official nomination.

Registration Procedure

After activating their account on the ERASMUS+ POLITEHNICA Bucharest Platform, students can begin completing the two required forms.

Required documents

  • SAF (Student Application Form)

  • A copy of your ID (for EU students) or Passport (for non-EU students)

  • A transcript of records from your previous semesters of study

  • A headshot (photo) that will be used for your student ID at our university

  • Digital Learning Agreement (LA), representing the student’s study contract for the semester, academic year, or short-term mobility at the host university.

  • Completing the LA is mandatory, as the data is linked to the internal systems and will be used to generate the Transcript of Records (ToR) at the end of mobility. Each exchange student can select subjects from up to two faculties within the same university campus.

Application Review Process

  1. The application forms and uploaded documents must first be verified by Home University Representatives.

  2. After their verification, the documents will be reviewed by the host university ERASMUS+ Office.

  3. If the forms and documents meet the requirements, the ERASMUS+ Office of POLITEHNICA Bucharest will officially accept the application.

IMPORTANT: Students participating in ERASMUS+ Placement Mobility must manage the application procedure directly with the local coordinator. The student does NOT need to be nominated or registered on the ERASMUS+ POLITEHNICA Bucharest Platform.

The first semester or the entire academic year:

  • June 15: Nomination Deadline

  • June 30: Application Completion Deadline (including all signatures on LA)

The second semester:

  • November 15: Nomination Deadline

  • November 30: Application Completion Deadline (including all signatures on LA)

IMPORTANT: Please adhere to the application deadlines outlined below (document submission deadlines).

  • The course is available each semester and offers 2 ECTS credits. To enroll, exchange students must include it in their Learning Agreement. Find detailed information about the Romanian Language Course.

IMPORTANT: Romanian Language Course for ERASMUS+ Students is only available on the Bucharest Campus. The course is not offered at the Pitești Campus, and the students at the Pitești Campus cannot enroll in this course.

Accommodation

The ERASMUS+ Office at the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest provides a limited number of rooms for student accommodation at both the Bucharest Regie Campus and the Pitești Campus.

Once a student opts for university accommodation in their SAF (Student Application Form) and the application is validated, a place will be reserved in the dormitory.

IMPORTANT: The ERASMUS+ Office will send details regarding the accommodation price and additional information via email approximately one month before the beginning of the semester.

In Bucharest, at the Regie Campus, rooms are shared by two students. A similar arrangement is in place at the Pitești Campus, where rooms are shared by 2, 3, or 4 students, depending on availability.

IMPORTANT:

  • Single rooms are not available.

  • A photocopy of the student’s ID card or passport is required at check-in.

Accommodation in the university dormitories is available exclusively for incoming students, as follows:

  • ERASMUS+ Study Mobility: Students nominated by their home university must complete and submit the Student Application Form (SAF) on the ERASMUS+ POLITEHNICA Bucharest Platform, selecting the option to request accommodation in POLITEHNICA Bucharest dormitories.

  • ERASMUS+ Placement Mobility: Students must complete the Room Reservation Form and submit it to the faculty coordinator at POLITEHNICA Bucharest responsible for supervising the student during their internship or placement.

Students who select dormitory accommodation will receive their arrival instructions by email before the start of the semester. The room assignment will be made at check-in.

IMPORTANT: On-campus housing is strongly recommended for non-EU students and may be mandatory in certain cases.

Academic Calendar

Depending on the student's selected study location, either the Bucharest Campus or the Pitești Campus, the academic calendar, including the start and end dates of courses, examination periods, and holiday breaks, may vary. Students are advised to consult the specific academic calendar of their designated campus to ensure proper planning and attendance.

IMPORTANT: Doctoral students should note that their academic schedule will align with the semester start dates and the exam session end dates.

Grading Scale

In Romanian universities, the grading scale typically ranges from 1 to 10, with 5 being the minimum passing grade. This system is numeric and linear, where each mark reflects a clear distinction in performance, and grades are generally assigned based on both written exams and coursework throughout the semester.

When participating in international exchanges or applying for academic recognition abroad, it's important to refer to official grade conversion schemes provided by universities or national agencies, as these help ensure fair and consistent interpretation across educational systems.

Grade Romanian Grade Definition of Scale Interval
A 10 EXCELLENT
B 9 VERY GOOD
C 7-8 GOOD
D 6 SATISFACTORY
E 5 SUFFICIENT
FX 4 FAILED
F 1-3 FAILED

Passports and Visas

Citizens of EU countries, as well as those from Canada, Iceland, Japan, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, and the United States of America, are exempt from visa requirements and may enter Romania with a valid identity document (e.g., passport or another official document confirming identity and citizenship).

A student from one of these countries may enter Romania with a simple customs stamp and remain in the country for up to 90 days. After this period, the student must apply for an extension of stay through the Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs, with extensions typically granted for a maximum duration of one year.

Students who are citizens of other countries must obtain a study visa in advance from a Romanian diplomatic mission or consular office in their country of residence. Should an extension of the visa be required, the student must contact the ERASMUS+ Office at POLITEHNICA Bucharest after arrival in Romania.

IMPORTANT: Students of EU universities who are citizens of non-EU countries must follow the same procedure as below for “Students who are citizens of other countries.”

Students are advised to consult the official website of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for further details regarding visa regulations. The IGI Portal should be used for the online submission of documents related to residence permits or visa extensions.
