Security Management of Informational and Communication Equipment and Systems

SMICES (Security Management of Informational and Communication Equipment and Systems) is an English-taught Master’s programme that trains engineers to design, implement and manage security across the full stack—from hardware security and wireless/radio security to software security and operational security (SOC). The programme blends advanced technical foundations with hands-on projects and structured research modules, addressing the growing cybersecurity needs of critical infrastructures and modern digital ecosystems.

Main objectives

- Build advanced skills for designing and integrating security architectures for hardware/software systems and communication networks.

- Develop capabilities in vulnerability assessment, risk analysis and mitigation, including mobile terminals, IoT and virtualised infrastructures.

- Provide strong grounding in cryptography and secure protocols for wireless, IoT and (introductory) quantum communications.

- Prepare graduates for security operations and management, including monitoring, incident response and Security Operations Center (SOC) workflows.

- Enable the use of AI/ML techniques for threat detection, anomaly analysis and security automation.

Language of instruction: English.

Duration & credits: 2 years (4 semesters), 120 ECTS; Semester 4 focuses on research methodology, research practice and thesis development.

Strong hands-on component: dedicated projects (SOC, AI for Cybersecurity, Wireless/IoT Security, Hardware Security) plus an integrator research project.

Industry engagement: internship/project partners such as Orange Romania, Bitdefender and NXP.

International dimension: supports mobility opportunities (e.g., Erasmus) and academic collaboration.
